Download the SIM on Wi-Fi

Pixel’s eSIM path has been stable since the Pixel 3 era: Settings, Network and internet, SIMs, then Add or Download a SIM. Choose to scan a QR. The email’s QR is the one that matters. Set the name to Vietnam when Android offers a label. You can complete this in your departure city. Leave mobile data on the physical SIM until you land so you do not start the Viettel clock early. The clock starts on the first attach inside Vietnam, not at download, but there is no reason to enable the line abroad.

Landing settings

  1. SIMs: Vietnam toggled on, home SIM still on.
  2. Mobile data: Vietnam. Turn off any “use the other SIM when needed” switch.
  3. Roaming: off for the Vietnam SIM.
  4. Calls and SMS preference: home SIM.
  5. Wait five to ten minutes. Use Chrome only as the test, with VPN off.

Pixels are less likely than carrier-branded Galaxies to hide the menu, and more likely to be bought unlocked. The exception is a unit whose firmware was built for a market without consumer eSIM. *#06# still decides. If an EID is on screen, you are in the supported set even if our list uses a slightly different marketing name. If pages fail with the right SIM selected, set the APN to v-internet and empty credentials, then reboot once. A single reboot beats a cycle of deleting the profile.

Adaptive Connectivity and a VPN are the two Pixel features that imitate a dead radio. Turn adaptive connectivity off if the phone keeps jumping, and disconnect the VPN until one page loads. Hotspot lives under Network and internet, Hotspot and tethering. It is allowed on this plan and it is metered by the same 5GB. When the allowance is spent, the Pixel can still broadcast a network name while the upstream is dead. Check the phone’s data usage screen before you blame the laptop.

Pixels bought from a carrier outside Google’s store can still be locked or missing the menu even when the retail name matches a supported model. The about screen’s model code, not the name on the listing you bought it from, is what to send support. If the EID is present and the QR installs, the rest of this page is only the switches: data SIM, roaming off, home SIM left on for texts. The allowance remains 5GB of high-speed data per day, shared with hotspot, reset at 23:59 Vietnam time.

Private DNS set to a provider hostname that the phone cannot reach looks identical to a failed APN. Set it back to Automatic, forget any VPN that connects at boot, and test again in Chrome. If that single change fixes it, you do not need a new eSIM. Write the change down so the next flight does not repeat the same outage.
