Most Vietnam eSIM roundups hide the only fact that changes the trip: which radio network the profile is allowed to join. A profile that says “Vietnam 5G” on the box can still be a roaming attachment to Vinaphone. That will load Grab in District 1. It is a weaker bet on the Ha Giang loop, where the sites on the ridges are Viettel’s. These two pages separate that network fact from marketing adjectives.
We checked public product pages on 7 October 2026. Airalo’s Vietnam page listed VNPT. Holafly’s Vietnam page listed GPC Vinaphone (VNPT) and told buyers to turn data roaming on. Saily’s Vietnam page described local networks in general and did not print a carrier name; it also tells you to enable roaming, and its unlimited plan is high-speed up to 5GB a day and then slower. Nomad’s own Vietnam page did not load for us that day, so this site does not assign Nomad a carrier. If a blog tells you all four brands ride Viettel, check the network line on that brand’s checkout before you pay.
The operator page uses Opensignal’s August 2026 Vietnam report and nPerf’s 2026 barometer. Those are independent measurements. They are not speed tests we ran, and they are national. Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index number for Vietnam is a country median across operators. Using it as “Viettel’s speed” would be wrong, so we do not.
- Local Viettel eSIM versus Airalo, Holafly, Saily, and Nomad
- Viettel versus Vinaphone versus MobiFone
- Ha Giang coverage if the decision is really about the north.
Our own product stays narrow on purpose. Data only, no eKYC, hotspot inside the daily 5GB, no slow unlimited fallback, validity from the first Viettel attach in Vietnam, QR by email after Whop checkout. If you need a phone number for local calls, this is the wrong product. If you need maps and Grab and a line that still exists in a district town, it is the one these pages describe.
Use the travel-brand page when the question is “which website’s QR should I buy?” Use the operator page when the question is “whose towers will the phone sit on?” A brand can change its wholesale partner without changing its logo. The operator page will still be the one that tells you what Opensignal and nPerf measured, with the month on the citation. If either page and a checkout screen disagree, believe the checkout screen you are about to pay, and tell us so we can correct the date on the citation. Our own numbers do not move with theirs: 5GB high-speed per day, hotspot on that same bucket, $9.99, $14.99, $18.99, code HelloVietnam.
