Why this airport is the easy one
Da Nang International Airport sits in the city rather than a long highway away from it. Once you have data, the ride to a hotel on the Han River or at My Khe beach is short. That only helps if the phone is already online. The failure mode we see is the same as everywhere else: someone lands, opens airplane mode, and discovers the eSIM was never installed because the apartment Wi-Fi was easier to postpone. Install it the day you receive the QR.
The steps do not change because the airport is smaller. Scan the QR on iPhone or Android over Wi-Fi. Label the line Vietnam. Leave the home SIM responsible for voice and SMS so bank codes still have a path. Do not delete a profile that errors during install. Write down the order email and contact support with a screenshot instead. A replacement is for a QR that never activates, not for one you removed.
The arrival hall
International passengers exit into the international terminal’s arrival hall. Viettel says that is where the official counter is. You will also see other carrier desks. They are optional. If your phone has no eSIM, a counter SIM plus your passport is the honest alternative, and you should expect a queue when two international flights overlap. If your phone has an EID, you already did the equivalent of that queue at home.
Passenger Wi-Fi is available in the terminal. We are not printing a network name for Da Nang because we could not confirm one on an official airport page the way we could for Noi Bai’s “@Airport Free Wifi - Goldsun”. Use the name written on the airport’s signs if you are stuck, accept the portal, open the QR email, install, and move on. The portal will not follow you to Hoi An.
Turn the line on, then leave
- Airplane mode off after you have decided to start the plan. The first Viettel attach inside Vietnam starts the 7, 15, or 30 days.
- Mobile data on the Vietnam line. Data roaming off.
- Wait five to ten minutes. If you only have a few minutes before a domestic connection, start the wait as soon as you are off the jet bridge rather than in the taxi.
- Open Grab and walk to the signed pickup. The ride to the beach or the river is the short kind. After midnight, skip the bus and use Grab or a taxi.
Most travelers are not staying only in Da Nang. The next morning is often the Hai Van pass, Hoi An, or a flight to somewhere else. The eSIM stays installed for all of that. You do not buy a second profile for Hoi An. What changes on the pass is the radio environment: tunnels and the sea side of the mountain can drop to a weak 4G cell or to nothing for a few minutes. That is coverage, not a broken install. The Da Nang and Hoi An coverage pages describe where that happens without pretending we ran a speed test on the pass.
Data you will actually spend
A beach day with Maps, a few Grab rides, photos sent on chat, and music is a normal day inside 5GB. Uploading a long video from the beach, or hotspotting a laptop for a work afternoon, is how people hit the wall. When the 5GB is used, data stops until 23:59 Vietnam time. Hotspot is allowed and shares that bucket. There is no phone number on this eSIM, so Grab and WhatsApp keep using the accounts you already had. If a payment app wants an SMS code, that SMS still belongs to the home SIM. Leave that line enabled for messages even while its mobile data is off.
